Fusion welding (joining two pieces of the same metal by melting the edges of the join and filling up the space with molten filler
rod of similar metal) uses oxy-gas flames.
Brazing consists of joining two pieces of metal by melting a suitable copper-alloy filler rod in the join. An air-gas or
oxy-gas flame is commonly used for this process.
Metal-heating processes are carried out at high temperatures and are energy intensive. In addition, the process must have:
1. low level of impurities as those could damage the metal
2. close control over furnace atmosphere
3. close control over temperature
LPG is an ideal fuel to achieve the cleanliness and control required as well as being cost effective for such processes.
